SAM SCOTT holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology and has clinical and applied research experience in the field of obesity, diabetes, and continuous glucose monitoring technology. His primary research focus has been on developing strategies to address the major barriers to exercise for people living with diabetes. For over five years, Sam was the Head of Research for Team Novo Nordisk, the professional cycling team comprised of athletes with type 1 diabetes. His research has resulted in a strong academic output, with over 30 publications in high-impact journals and numerous keynotes and invited presentations. SIMON HELLEPUTTE has a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from Ghent University, Belgium, with clinical research in cardiometabolic health and exercise metabolism in type 1 diabetes. He has also undertaken applied research into continuous glucose monitoring in athletes. His doctoral research was situated in what he refers to as the fascinating but challenging triangle between cardiovascular health, glycaemic management, and exercise in people with type 1 diabetes. His primary research was in exercise and type 1 diabetes, with one of his research focuses being postprandial exercise. Simon wants his research to significantly impact the lives of people living with type 1 diabetes, and he aims to translate his passion for exercise metabolism to the patient. His broader scientific interests include (clinical) exercise physiology and metabolism, sports nutrition, and training, with a specific interest in endurance sports performance. He is an avid cyclist and enjoys this preferably in a soothing mountain scenery.
